Some Ways to Calm Yourself Down During a Wedding Speech Presentation
Some people are born to be great speakers even if put under pressure. However, this is not a gift we all share. Some of us get tongue-tied when asked to speak in front of an audience especially if we have no time to prepare for it. Well, if you are asked to present a wedding speech for your best friend, who could either be the bride or the groom, you have been given an ample amount of time to prepare for it.
The key in making a great wedding speech presentation is to devote enough time to prepare for it. When you are prepared, you will have more confidence during the event and deliver your speech well. Of course, every speech starts with writing one, so better stay ahead by reorganizing your thoughts and writing a speech from your heart.
After writing your speech, you will have enough time to practice it. Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes, so better take advantage of the extra time to practice the wedding speech you prepared. You should have known by now how to deliver your speech, your tone, manner of talking, the loudness or softness of your voice, everything.
When you constantly practice the way you present a wedding speech, there comes a time when your mind starts to accommodate every word without exerting any effort in memorizing it. When you know your speech by heart, you can start jotting down the important key points you’d like to reiterate during the ceremony. The key points are the most important messages you’d like to address the couple.
Use queue cards or index cards to jot down these key points and bring them with you during the event. When you go on stage, you can glance over the cards to check whether you have forgotten something important to say. Please avoid writing the whole wedding speech on the queue cards because this will make your speech delivery more confusing especially if you start to read word for word.
If you read a wedding speech out of a piece of paper or card, it would seem that you are not truly expressing your feelings for the couple. It’s a bit impersonal if you use this on your presentation. As what has been mentioned, take some time off to prepare yourself and your speech for the wedding day.
When it’s your turn to speak in front of the crowd, stand up from your seat and walk towards the stage with your head held up high. You can drink a glass of wine to calm your nerves before going on stage or a glass of water. But never drink too much wine because your wonderfully prepared wedding speech might just be ruined because you can’t speak out the words properly or perhaps end up cursing while you’re delivering a wedding speech.
You should also avoid drinking too much water because you might end up hurrying towards the bathroom in the middle of your presentation. You should keep in mind to never rush your delivery. A moderately paced speech is preferred as this could really express your message well for the newlyweds.
